Krya, Livadia
Follow the river, cross the bridges and pause by the water
Explore the guide ↓Krya is the riverside area to start with in Livadia. Here, the Erkina River runs beside stone paths, bridges, trees, cafes and tavernas. Come for a walk and leave room for a stop by the water. The area also introduces the stories of Trophonios that run through the town’s ancient history.

A walk shaped by water
Begin with the paths beside the river. Look at how the bridges connect the two banks and how the water runs alongside places to eat, drink and sit. You can make the walk the centre of your visit or combine it with time in the town centre.

The stories behind the setting
Livadia’s ancient traditions connect water with the Oracle of Trophonios. Read that story alongside your visit, keeping the ancient accounts separate from the modern bridges, statues and buildings you encounter.

Choose how to spend your time
For a short visit, pair the river walk with coffee or lunch. With a full day, add the town centre and another stop that interests you. Keep the castle as a separate option to assess according to current access and your comfort with an uphill walk.

Practical points
Wear shoes suited to walking and take care on wet paving beside the water. With children, keep close supervision near the river. If steps or uneven surfaces affect your plans, confirm a suitable route locally before setting out.
Read the practical guide →Gardavitsa and the springs
Gardavitsa is the rocky landscape rising above Krya, part of the wider Helicon mountain setting. Limestone cliffs and underground cavities help explain the scenery around the gorge. The Krya springs are karst springs: water emerges from an underground system within the limestone landscape. Look up from the river to see the close relationship between the town, the rock faces and the springs.

Walking with a pushchair
For a pushchair outing, use the riverside section between the northern endpoint and the southern endpoint. Small drainage channels near Xenia can make crossing awkward and may require help. This guidance applies to that section only, not to the castle climb or the upper gorge.
Keep children close beside the water and check the surface after rain. Pushchair access is not a confirmation of wheelchair accessibility.
