Best things to do in Livadia

The Castle of Livadia

Livadia rewards those who slow down. The town’s best experiences are not ticketed attractions or timed tours — they are walks beside running water, conversations over local food, and the gradual discovery of a place that wears its history lightly.

Begin at Krya. Follow the stone paths along the Erkina River as it flows from the springs, past old watermills and plane trees, toward the medieval castle. The walk is easy, beautiful in any season, and central to understanding Livadia.

The Castle and the Oracle

The medieval castle above the town offers views over the gorge and the surrounding landscape. Below it, the ancient Oracle of Trophonios occupied the sacred underground of the hill. Both are accessed from the Krya path and combine naturally into a single morning or afternoon excursion.

Eat Like a Local

Livadia is known across Greece for its food culture. Souvlaki, grilled meats, local taverns, riverside tables, tsipouro with meze — the food here is generous, direct and deeply rooted in the Roumeli tradition.
